José Luís Garcia is PHD in Sociology by the Portuguese Universidade de Lisboa, after having done doctorate studies at London School of Economics (London University, UK). He is a Senior Researcher of the Instituto de Ciências Sociais (Institute for Social Sciences) of Universidade de Lisboa (ICS-UL). He has lectured in several Portuguese and foreign universities, namely Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa), Universidade de São Paulo (USP), a Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), Escola Superior de Comunicação Social do Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa (ESCS-IPL) and Escola Superior de Educação de Coimbra do Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra. His research and publications are centered in communication, media and journalism studies, social studies of science and technology, green political economy and classic sociological theory. Has authored many articles and book chapters, being a regular collaborator of the academic reviews Análise Social, Revista Española de Sociologia, Revista Iberoamericana de Ciência, Tecnologia y Sociedad, Scientiae Studia: Revista Latino-Americana de Filosofia e História da Ciência, Dados: Revista de Ciências Sociais. Between 2009 and 2013, Garcia was President of the Portuguese Observatory for Cultural (Observatório das Actividades Culturais – OAC.
