Moisés de Lemos Martins is full Professor of the Department of Communication Sciences, University of Minho. Founder, in 2001, and Director of the Communication and Society Research Centre (CSRC). Directs the Comunicação e Sociedade/Communication and Society and the Revista Lusófona de Estudos Culturais/Lusophone Journal of Cultural Studies. Directed for ten years the Social Sciences Institute, University of Minho (1996-2000, 2004-2010). First Director of the Doctoral Program in Communication Sciences, University of Minho (2009-2011); of the Doctoral Program in Cultural Studies, a consortium between the University of Minho and the University of Aveiro (2010-2015); and of the FCT-Doctoral Program “Communication Studies: Technologie, Culture and Society” (2013-2015), which involves five universities. Former President of Sopcom – Portuguese Association of Communication Sciences (2005-2015); Lusocom – Federation of the Lusophone Associations of Communication Sciences (2011-2015); Confibercom – Ibero-American Confederation of the Scientific and Academic Associations of Communication (2012-2015). Doctorate by the University of Strasbourg in Social Sciences (specialty in Sociology), has published in the areas of Sociology of Culture, Social Semiotics, Sociology of Communication, Intercultural Communication, Lusophone Studies. His books include: Lusofonia e Interculturalidade – Promessa e Travessia (Húmus, 2015); Do Post ao Postal (with Maria da Luz Correia, Húmus, 2014); Crise no Castelo da Cultura. Das Estrelas para as Telas (Annablume, 2011); L’Imaginaire des Médias (with Michel Maffesoli, De Broeck, 2011); Comunicação e Lusofonia. Para uma abordagem crítica da cultura e dos média (with Helena Sousa and Rosa Cabecinhas, Campo das Letras, 2006); A Linguagem, a Verdade e o Poder. Ensaio de Semiótica Social (FCG/FCT, 2002); Para uma Inversa Navegação. O Discurso da Identidade (Afrontamento, 1996); O Olho de Deus no Discurso Salazarista (Afrontamento, 1990). He is a member of the International Group for Studies of Colonial periodical press of the Portuguese empire (IGSCP-IP).
