Periodical Press in Goa. Research, Preservation and Access
An overview of the periodical press published in Goa from 1821 to 1961 will be provided, with data on directors, editors, owners and general content. The Central Library of the Goa State, inherited from the National Library of Nova-Goa, the oldest public library in Asia, holds a particularly rich collection of periodicals. We will present the procedures adopted to preserve periodical press through a policy of conservation and access.
Carlos M. Fernandes (Goa, 1962) is BA by the University of Bombay, MA and PHD by the Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Since 1989 has developed his activity as a librarian, being the Curator of Krishnadas Shama Goa State Central Library since 2006. Designed a new Dewey decimal classification number for Konkani language and literature and got it approved from Library of Congress (NY, USA) in the year 2002. Again obtain two separate nos. for Goa and Daman and Diu in geographical areas from same institute in 2003. Was awarded Goa State Best Librarian Award (2014) conferred by Govt. of Goa. Has edited and authored several books and publishes regularly in expert reviews.
