Colonial press at the Historical Archive of São Tomé e Príncipe
This paper aims to (1) present a brief retrospective of written press that existed in the territory of São Tomé during the colonial period, as well as the collection of Historical Archive of São Tomé and Príncipe, (2) discuss how colonial interests or their contestation by “filhos da terra” are manifested in some of the titles conserved in that institution.
Sónia Almeida de Ceita Carvalho (S. Tomé, 1977) is graduated in Portuguese Language and Literature by the Faculty of Letters of Lisbon University. Lectured Portuguese Language and Literature at the Instituto Superior Politécnico de São Tomé e Príncipe and has guided many thesis at the University of São Tomé e Príncipe. Presently she is the Director of the Historical Archive of São Tomé e Príncipe, General-Secretary of the National Commission of UNESCO and President of the Managing Comission of the Literary Prize Francisco Tenreiro. Participated recently in the First Encounter of Language and Literature of the University of São Tomé e Príncipe.
